    Summary

    The Scharbauer family has a long history of helping build Midland, Texas. First and foremost, the Scharbauer Foundation seeks to make grants that will help make Midland a better place in which to live and do business. The following are general guidelines used by the Foundation in evaluating grant requests:

    • Grants will be considered for activities involving arts/culture, education, health, human/social services, public/civic benefit, and faith-based or religious activities.
    • Preference is given to requests for assistance with capital improvements, construction, or expansion of program capacity as compared to requests involving ongoing or annual operating, administration or scholarship expenses.
    • Generally, applicants receiving grants for non-capital type requests may not receive similar grants in consecutive years.
    • Preference is given to applications from qualified organizations in the following geographic priority:
      • Midland, Texas
      • Permian Basin region of Texas
      • Panhandle region of Texas
      • State of Texas

    No grants or loans will be made to:

    • Individuals

    • Lobbying organizations
    • Individual public or private schools that provide primary and/or secondary education (PK-12) to the general population

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are Texas non-profit organizations. Requests will be considered only from qualified non-profit organizations which:
    • Are tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3),
    • Are further classified as a public charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 509(a), and,
    • Provide a copy of the IRS Letter of Determination Ruling. Applicants claiming exemption as a Government Entity must also provide evidence of their tax-exempt status,
    • Submit all required information.

    Deadline Details

    The Foundation considers requests and makes grant awards twice each year in the Spring and the Fall. Pre-Applications will be accepted from January 16-February 7, 2024 for the Spring 2024 Grant Cycle and August 6-August 29, 2024 for the 2024 Fall Grant Cycle. Pre-applications must be received by the Foundation by 5:00 PM on the day of the deadline. First time applicants should contact the Foundation staff prior to submitting a Pre-application.
