    Summary

    The Smart Cities Readiness Council donates coaching, workshops, products, services and more free benefits to five communities in North America each year. These efforts assist cities and regions that share their goal of implementing technology to achieve a more livable, workable and sustainable world.


    In 2020, the Smart Cities Council will work to:

    • Accelerate cities becoming livable, workable and sustainable
    • Design a challenge that cities win just by participating.
    • Share actionable knowledge

    Applicants must agree to the Smart City Principles espoused by the Smart Cities Council, which call for an inclusive, equitable, œpeople-first approach and a commitment to community livability, workability, sustainability, and resilience.

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are state and local government entities - including cities, counties, special districts, municipalities, states, provinces, or similar organizations. Applicants are encouraged to expand their applicant group to include as many local stakeholders as they can, such as nonprofits, academia and commercial interests. The lead applicant must have a population greater than 100,000 residents.


    Previous finalist and winners of the Readiness Challenge are eligible to apply.

    Deadline Details

    Applications are to be submitted by March 16, 2020. A second round of applications is anticipated in Fall 2020.

    Award Details

    This is not a traditional grant funding program. Individual awards will include 12-months worth of mentoring, products and services worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Awardees will also receive an on-site Readiness Workshop and worldwide publicity. Five awards are anticipated.


    Cost sharing/matching is not required, however, winning applicants must supply a venue suitable for plenary sessions of up to 150 and commit to all event costs including audiovisual support, food, etc.
