    The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation will provide support for organizations within the following fields of interest:

    Projects serving the following populations are of special interest:

    • Women and girls

    Grants primarily for family planning programs, and scholarships to residents of Nebraska attending Nebraska public colleges or universities.


    Grants to Individuals Program: Scholarships to residents of NE to attend NE public colleges and universities.

    Outstanding Teacher Awards: Teaching awards are made to outstanding certified teachers in the Omaha public school system (K-12) with a minimum of two years teaching experience. The program provides 15 awards annually, $10,000 per recipient. Teachers must be nominated by members of the community. Individual applications are not accepted.

    Program-Related Investment: Historically, the foundation has made PRIs to educational and social science institutions.

    Scholarship Program: The scholarships can be used to cover expenses related to attending college (e.g. tuition and fees, housing, books). The amount of the scholarship is reviewed each year and adjusted accordingly to accommodate increases or decreases in college-going costs. The foundation initiated the William H. Thompson Scholars Learning Communities. Students who receive the scholarship and will be attending either University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of Nebraska-Lincoln or University of Nebraska-Kearney will be part of this Learning Community Average Scholarship: $200-$5,000 What Scholarship Covers: Tuition or other educational expenses Degree program: Undergraduate degree Geographic Scope of Student: Nebraska resident; Nebraska high school graduate (or with Nebraska GED) Host Countries: USA Population Served: Nebraska resident; Nebraska high school graduate (or with Nebraska GED) Program model: Religion based .

    The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation has given a total of $589,873,244 in grants in 2017. Recent awardees include: Black Women for Wellness, Board of Regents of the University of Texas System, Boston Medical Center, and the Bush Relief Fund.
