    Summary

    The Department of Public Instruction provides grants for new construction and other capital projects for public schools.


    There are five programs under this umbrella:

    • SCIF - K-12 Facilities Grants: Repair and renovation of existing athletic facilities
    • PSBCF - Public School Building Capital Fund: Assists county governments by providing funds for school construction through Lottery revenue distributions
    • NBPSCF - Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund: Assists county governments with high needs by providing funds for school construction through Lottery revenue distributions
    • PSBRRF - Public School Building R&R Fund: Assists county governments by providing funds for public school building repair and renovation needs through Lottery revenue distributions
    • Local School Bonds

    Additional Information

    Funds for these programs comes through the revenue from the North Carolina Education Lottery. Lump sums are assigned to PSBCF each year and remainders are split amongst the other programs.

    Deadlines vary by program. PSBCF, PSBRRF, and NBPSCF lottery distribution requests are due on a monthly basis.
