    Summary

    The California Endowment aims to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of all Californians.


    Types of funding include:

    • Direct Charitable Activities: DCAs are those activities that are consistent with the Endowment's mission, but are conducted by the Endowment (or its DCA are those activities that are consistent with the Endowment's mission, but are conducted by the Endowment ( or its contractors) and whose primary and significant purpose is to achieve the Endowment's charitable purpose, though the activities may be produce an incidental, shared or mutual benefit to a third party.
    • Matching Gifts: The Endowment matches individual contributions of $25 or more by donating three dollars for every one dollar contributed by participants to eligible charitable organizations.
    • Program Related Investments (PRI): PRI activity is structured to complement and support the Endowment's programmatic priorities and advance current 2020 goals. Current priority issue areas include:
      • Increasing access to quality health care and improving the capacity of community-based primary care health delivery and prevention
      • Addressing the lack of opportunity and health and wellness of youth
      • Improving neighborhood conditions in distressed and unstable communities.

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are: U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that are not classified as private foundations; Government entities; and Faith-based organizations that welcome and serve all members of the community.

    Deadline Details

    Funding opportunities are by invitation only. The Endowment program managers solicit, or invite, applications from organizations that are advancing the foundation's programmatic priorities. To be eligible for consideration, a request for funding must include a completed application, required supplementary documents, completed organizational diversity data, and a current GuideStar profile.


    Direct Charitable Activities: The California Endowment enters into Direct Charitable Activity contracts with for-profit entities by invitation only.
