Earl C. Sams Foundation Inc
Summary

The Foundation awards grants to a wide array of charities, primarily in the South Texas area, for many projects in various educational, medical, social, religious and environmental fields.
The Foundation does not have a policy prohibiting or restricting grants for administration/operating expenses, construction costs, fund raising costs, seed money/startup funds, program expenses, capital campaigns, equipment, endowments, challenge/matching grants. However, the Foundation may not be as inclined to make grants in some of these areas, though the Foundation has made and will continue to make such grants in the future.
History of Funding

In 2018, a total of $623,000 in grants was given to 49 grant recipients. The Foundation has given a total of over $48 million in grants since its inception in 1946. A complete list of past grant recipients since 2002 can be found at http://www.ecsams.org/grants.cfm.
Additional Information

The Foundation generally restricts its grant recipients to those in the South Texas area, though some exceptions to this have occurred.
The foundation does not give grants to individuals.
Individual board members may be willing to meet with prospective applicants prior to their application, at which time applicants may present their organization's proposal for grant consideration. To arrange for such a meeting, applicants may contact the Grants Manager at (361) 888-6485 or by emailing your request to [email protected].
Decisions about grant applications are made at each of three board meetings in a year, which generally occur on the first Monday of March, June, and November.
Applicants may reapply once per calendar year, and may receive funding up to three years in a row before they are ineligible to apply again. After a year of not applying, such a previous grant recipient may once again apply for a grant from the Earl C. Sams Foundation.

Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations based in the South Texas area. Occasionally grants have been given to organizations outside this geographic area, but such exceptions are rare.
